Site Update ?d=25 iSessioner Logo

I just completed the update for the new logo for iSessioner.com and updated the education quotes. I'm still not for sure about the quote used in the title since it doesn't convey all of the things iSessioner.com will be doing. The quote will do for right now until I can think of something better.

Current Status ?d=24 Current StatusRight now, the coders and I are working to complete a list of twenty tasks. I have listed them in order of importance, so we can get the most important ones done first. Once these tasks are completely, we will be ready to do a start up pilot project. This start up pilot project is very important because it will give us the data we need to determine what works, what doesn't work and what we need to do to satisfy the needs of ALL the users.

Vyew.com Online Interactive White Board ?d=23 Vyew.com Interactive Online BoardRight now, the coder and I are making some changes to Vyew.com's Interactive Online White board, so All Sessioners will be able to create, edit or delete the content they create on the board. Right now, the Sessioners cannot do this, so this is a major problem that has to be resolved. We also found out that Vyew.com will no longer be free, which is not good, but what can you do about it, its the only online white board that meets our required needs. The lowest price now is $9.95 per month, which isn't to bad, but we'll know for sure once the Sessioners begin to use iSessioner.com. Will they pay the price to use Vyew.com's Interactive Online White board or not pay the price?

Interactive Calendar Events ?d=22 Calendar EventThe coder and I continue to improve the Interactive Calendar Event, so it will do exactly what we want it to do. Today, the coder added two new input fields that will further the capabilities of the script. So far, the ICE improvements are going well. The idea is to make the Interactive Calendar Event indispensable to the Sessioners and the students.

Interactive Calendar ?d=21 iSessioner CalendarAs I continue to develop iSessioner.com, I can see that we are close to where we want to be, so I'm excited about where we are currently at. I don't think we will ever be completely done no matter how many Sessioners or students use the Web application, because you will always have the competition to contend with, but that is OK with me because you never want to become complacent. So, the next service I have added to iSessioner.com is the Interactive Calendar for the Sessioners and the students. The Interactive Calendar will allow the users to keep track of their tasks, their events and the things they need to do.

Bitbucket.org ?d=20 Bitbucket.orgOne of the things we had to do recently is to move the iSessioner.com Web site project to another server, because the coders and I were finding ourselves at times using a different version of a file. I really didn't know much about these kinds of Web services, so I left the decision to the coder. I was not disappointed in what was selected. The name of the Web site is called Bitbucket and it provides you everything you need to manage, edit and operate your Web site project. And, if you have five or fewer users the price is free. And, even if you go over the number of users and have to pay, the amount you pay per month per user does not cost a lot.

Interactive Notebook Search ?d=19 iSessioner.com NotebooksOne of the things I wanted to do at this point was to give the students and the Sessioners a way to categories and search the public Interactive Notebook Posts. So, after talking about this with my coder, we came up with a model that allows for a variety of ways to find a post. So far, it looks like it will work well and we'll be able to know for sure once it gets test loaded.

Session Comments Flag for Review ?d=18 iSessioner CommentsAt this point, I added a flag image (link) to all Session comments, so anyone that reads and inappropriate comment can submit it for review by the Sessioner of the Session or by the admin of the Web site. Currently, to be able to contact the Sessioner or the admin it is done through the Internal Messenger (IM) on the Web site. For example, if you log in as a student and go to their profile page and click the Contact Sessioner link below the Sessioner's image, you will be taken the the Internal Messenger (IM), so you can contact that Sessioner.

Sessioner and Student Comments ?d=17 iSessioner CommentsAt this time, I have started the process to enable the Sessioners and the students to be able to make comments on all the Sessions. They will also be able to edit and delete their comments, etc. In the future, I will do the same thing for the Board's Notebook posts too. It is important for the users of your web services to be able to voice their comments on the services they use no matter what they say, so you can make any needed changes, etc. This will make your web services better and more importantly, make your users happy and when your users are happy, it's a good thing.

Interactive Notebooks ?d=16 Interactive Notebooks One of the things I really think is ideal for students to be able to do, is to create, manage and maintain their own Interactive Notebook. When I was teaching high school biology (I just retired this past school year), we were using notebooks (composition), but they were not interactive. Our notebooks were for students to keep their assignments in, so they could be used for further learning outside the classroom, help them prepare for quizzes and tests, be able to prove to the teacher they completed the assignment or the assignment had been already graded, collaborate with other students on assignments and labs and help them to keep their learning material organized to name just a few things why we did them.

The drawback. The students did not like having to carry them around with them, which basically defeats the main purpose in having them in the first place, which is to be available at anytime when they need to use it. Nevertheless, it was a success, but it takes a lot of time and energy on the part of the teacher to make sure the students are doing it right. It also requires the student to put in the time and energy to make it happen too. All to often though, students would not do this outside the classroom no matter how hard I tried to get them to do it.

My colleagues had the same results as I had too. So, we would end up updating the notebooks during class time, which took away from learning the content. To get around this problem, I would go around the classroom as I had always done and have discussions with the students on biology or put on a science related video while they updated their notebooks.

On iSessioner.com, the coder and I have been spending the last two months creating a true Interactive Online Notebook students will not have to carry around with them and has all the capabilities any student would need to enhance their learning. The students will also be able to create public or private notebook posts depending on what their needs are. Do you want the world to see what you have created or do you need the posts to be private, so you can have others provide feedback to you, work with you on the notebook posts or do you need to show the post to your teacher for a grade? Either way, you can go from public to private or private to public.

Individual and Group Session Time Sheets ?d=15 Individual Session Timesheet I've been spending the last day checking and rechecking the Individual and the Group Session Time Sheets to make sure the calculation are working properly. So far, the online forms are working just fine. Right now, this will have to suffice for the Sessioners and the students to use to submit their Session times. Having both of them to submit their times provides a comparison to check the times submitted to make sure they are accurate and if not, why? Beside being able to submit their times, the Sessioners and the students will also be required to submit what they did and what did they or did not accomplish during the Session. I wish I could use these forms forever, but later, they will have to be replaced because the user interface doesn't allow me to do everything that I need to do and if I change any part of the form, the data in the dbase will be lost.

Class Name or Subject Name? ?d=14 Class Name or Subject Name? Initially, I believed that using the subject name would be the best option to use in the public search and in the private search for locating Sessions. But, after having some students use the search services, they didn't like it. The students thought it would be a better idea to use the subject name as a category and insert a class name input field. By doing this, they believe it would be faster and a more efficient way to find the Session they're looking for. After much thought and more talking with the students, I agreed to what they were saying and had the coder change the searchers. From what I've seen so far, it looks like its the right thing to do. In the future, I'll let you know how the changes work out.

Bad Word Filtering ?d=13 Bad Word Filtering In the past, my coder (programmer) and I had discussions on how to prevent students, etc. from inserting bad words into any of their posts and how to go about allowing users to flag posts or other unfavorable content. Since we are working with students, it is imperative these services be available to prevent problems that students don't realize or do on purpose that can lead to major headaches not only for the school, but for all those involved. Since I'm not a coder and don't have the time or the employees right now to do it, we decided it would have to be done automatically. Once the changes have been made, I'll write another blog post to give you an update.

The Tester ?d=12 iSessioner Image

The Tester is an online Web application for taking test. Its another one of those Web application that can facilitate learning for all students anywhere and anytime. I like the fact that online testing Web applications can help the students learn without the Sessioner or teacher having to be present.

Like any testing Web application, a good way to use it would be to create and use tests that are specific to a learning objective or learning objective with the intent of the student mastery the stated goal associated with the objective(s).

Search Update ?d=11 iSessioner Image

Since the search features are an important part of the iSessioner Tutoring, Learning and Collaboration Web Application, I wanted to make sure the search results are indeed what is wanted. So, I changed the search results to be the same for the private search and the public search.

The public search is for non members to use and the private search is for members to use. The main differences between the two are that members can use the private search to contact a Sessioner through the Internal Messenger and view the entire contents of the Session View.

CKEditor Upgrade ?d=10 CKEditor

Recently, I tried to upgrade the CKEditor because the kcfinder, which is a file manager plugin for the CKEditor was not working. But, no matter what I did, the kcfinder was still not working. Eventually, I got a file manager to work with the CKEditor, so the problem has been resolved.

The CKEditor is an Open Source WYSIWYG online editor that is probably the best editor. It is a vital online tool that allows dreams to become reality.

The WYSIWYG Editor ?d=9 iSessioner Image

One of the things I do periodically is to check the status of the iSessioner Tutoring, Learning and Collaboration Web Application to make sure everything is working properly. When I checked the Web application recently, I found that the WYSIWYG editor not working properly in the Board's application. The specific problem was that you couldn't safe the post you made. Once the problem was found, the problem was fixed.

The Board is a Web application that is very important, because it will be use by the students to create their own Digital Learning Notebook. The idea is for all students to have a place for all of their learning materials that would be available to them anytime and from anywhere. In addition, it would be a place where all of their assignments could be submitted to for grading.

The News Scroll ?d=8 iSessioner Image

I added another online tool, so we had to make some changes to the news scroll so it would work. It hasn't been an issue, but anytime I integrate something, it is the first thing I check to make sure iSessioner continues to operate without any glitches.

The news scroll is something the admin has control over. The purpose of the news scroll is to keep the members up-to-date on what's going on or to inform the public on those things related to iSessioner that would be useful to them.

The Search Features ?d=7 iSessioner Image

Since I made the changes on how to create Sessions, I now have to change the public search and the private search. This will result in members being able to get better search results in a timely manner. This is exactly what I want to happen, because you don't want to waste anyone's time.

The public search is for non members to use and the private search is for members to use. The main differences between the two are that members can use the private search to contact a Sessioner through the Internal Messenger and view the entire contents of the Session View.

Internal Messenger Update ?d=6 iSessioner Image

After testing the Internal Messenger, it became apparent it would need to be changed. Currently, each member is listed in the drop down menu they can choose from to send an Internal Message to. Obviously, this would be a problem if you have a lot of members listed in the drop down menu. A better way to do this would be to use a search feature. By using a search feature, you don't have to worry about a long list to choose from and you can find the person your looking for quicker. Coupled with the fact that you can send an Internal Message to two or more members is another advantage of changing the Internal Messenger.

Session Changes ?d=5 iSessioner Image

At this time, the files used to create Sessions are being changed or more files are being added to make the creation of Session and easy thing to do. Sessions will enable the Sessioners to create any type of Session to meet the requests of all its members.

The Session process begines when the student registers for an iSessioner account. On that online form, the student will let the Sessioners know what they are requesting help for. Once the student has submitted their online registration form, they will next begin the process of selecting a Sessioner. When the student has selected the Sessioner, they will work together to create the Session. On the other hand, if the student cannot find what they are looking for, they can send an Internal Message to the admin to make a request for the Session to be created. The admin in turn will send the request out to all of the Sessioners to respond to.

Microsoft Surfer Pro Tablet ?d=3 iSessioner on Microsoft Surfer Pro TabletOne of the things I wanted to do was to see what iSessioner would look like on Microsoft RST Tablet Tablet, so I went to my nearest Best Buy to check it out. The Microsoft RST Tablet is the low end model of their tablets, but the sales rep told me they had a problem with the display one, so I had to use the MS Pro Tablet display.

I had looked at these tablets before, but this time I was going to really look at it instead of just glacing at it like I had the last time. Well, I have to say that I was impressed with the MS Pro Tablet and I could not believe how easy it was to use. At first it can seem difficult to use if you're not use to how they work, but once you figure it out, which doesn't take a lot, you can do a lot of things. It's light in weight and the graphics are impressive and with the ability to multitask at your finger tips on the keyboard or on the screen, you can do no wrong. It would be nice though if the attached keyboard was not sold as a separate item, because the keyboard should always be available at no costs no mater if it has touch screen capabilities.

Web Site Completed - Demo Ready ?d=2 iSessioner.com Index Page Image The iSessioner.com Web site has been completed as well as the demo Web site for iSessioner's Tutoring, Learning, Collaboration and Mentoring Web Application or theTLCM Web Application.

Currently, I'm in the process of soliciting public schools who want to be part of the pilot project. I'm specifically looking for public schools in the following areas: reservation, rural, suburban and urban. In each one of the areas, I'm seeking an elementary school, a middle school/junior high school and a high school for a total twelve pilot projects. The complete information on the pilot project can be found at http://www.isessioner.com/pilot.php.

Web Site Update ?d=1 iSessioner.com Index Page Image I'm almost finished with completing the Web site for iSessioner.com that will be used to advertise the iSessioner Tutoring, Learning, Collaboration and Mentoring Web Application (aka -TLCM) to public school districts and public schools.

I'm really excited about this Web site project, because I believe I'm about to fulfill a life-long dream of mine I've had since high school. We are talking about thirty-four years and counting since I last attended high school, so its been a long road to get to where I'm at today. I can tell you that it has been worth the wait and plus, I really didn't have a choice since I had to wait for the right technology to become reality and the cost to use the technology to be affordable.
